Tiles & Bricks
The market for clay tiles and bricks is growing every year because of the main properties of clay, especially as an insulator.
Calcium carbonate filler is used for its chemical properties or as a pigment to improve the quality of the clay or to enlarge the range of clay tiles and bricks that can be made.
There are three main advantages to blending clay with calcium carbonate filler for the production of clay tiles or clay bricks:
- To lighten the coloration of the natural clay and obtain a yellower hue. Calcium carbonate can comprise as much as 15% of the total.
- To decrease shrinkage, which can be quite important depending on the nature of the clay. The use of calcium carbonate efficiently reduces shrinkage.
- To decrease the contamination of the air by the fluorine released into the atmosphere during clay burn process. (Refer also to Environment)
