Lake Liming
Significant air pollution is generated by industrial activities, especially the combustion of coal in electrical power stations.
Polluted air containing sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide gases induces acid rain, which has a negative effect on the pH value of open waters.
This environmental problem can be solved by spreading calcium carbonate on the water surface to increase the pH of the water. This procedure also limits the eutrophisation of water. The products decrease the excess nutrients (phosphate, nitrate) in water by adding Ca ions, which subsequently increases the clarity of the water.
Sustainability
Omya deposits are near important markets to guarantee efficient, long-term supply of high-quality calcium carbonates.
