In many plastic manufacturing processes, it is necessary to pre-disperse fillers and additives in a masterbatch or compound. Omya has a wealth of experience in the production of masterbatches and compounds based on calcium carbonate including enhanced white and color masterbatches.

Omya is continuously expanding its product portfolio with new developments that make it possible to increase the degree of filling further and ensure optimum performance.

Many masterbatches require process aids and stabilizers, which Omya offers through its local distribution portfolio, thus providing its customers with a comprehensive range of products to produce masterbatches and compounds.

White and Color Masterbatch

Omya offers a wide family of mineral additives that enhance the dispersion of pigments in white and color masterbatches. Omya offers a force multiplier with dual action into the polymer matrix.

With an action of pigment extension and dispersion improvement in addition to a self-opacity contribution, Omya makes it possible to improve and enhance the original pigment performance in the color masterbatch.

Biopolymer Masterbatch

Biopolymers are growing in interest in the polymer industry, but they are significantly more expensive than other conventional polymers.

The industry has the need to modify biopolymers to get closer to the costs and performance of conventional polymers and calcium carbonate is proven in the plastic industry to improve both, with products such as Omyacarb T and Omya Smartfill improving tear resistance, stiffness and elongation.

PET Masterbatch

It is known that moisture and certain additives degrade Polyethylenterephthalat (PET) during extrusion.

For this reason, the use of calcium carbonate has been avoided in the past. With the development of OmyaPET calcium carbonate, it is now possible to benefit from the unique advantages that calcium carbonate provides to polymers.

Using OmyaPET can lower PET degradation; reduce material density and increase opacity in processes such as stretch blow molding (SBM) and BOPET; and enhance white masterbatch at a lower overall cost.

Polyolefin masterbatch

Calcium carbonate is the ideal mineral filler for many polymer concentrates. Masterbatches are manufactured with ultrafine calcium carbonate in different carrier resins such as polypropylene, polyethylene and polystyrene.

Omya products are used in a wide variety of applications, offering substantial performance and cost benefits, ensuring excellent masterbatch quality with filler load up to 87%.

The use of calcium carbonate masterbatch offers increased productivity, raw material cost-savings, lower energy consumption and lower carbon footprint.

Engineering polymers

The use of mineral modifiers is common in Polyamide compounds to increase stiffness and impact strength.

Unfortunately, this has the side effect of lowering elongation. Omya recommends the use of Omya Smartfill, which has a unique surface modification that increases stiffness and elongation improving overall ductility.

Using Omya Smartfill can also allow producers to partially replace glass fiber and PA, lower their carbon footprint and reduce overall production costs.
