History

When, on 4 August 1884, Gottfried Plüss founded a putty plant in Oftringen, the idea seemed to be simple. Within a few years, Plüss-Staufer enlarged its business with glazier's putty to trade with chalk and the production of linseed oil.

Today, Omya is active in two business areas: the production and distribution of mineral raw materials made of calcium carbonate and dolomite and the distribution of chemical products from renowned manufacturers all over the world.

The putty plant of Gottfried Plüss has meanwhile become a worldwide proceeding company. This change became visible in the name too. The Plüss-Staufer AG was renamed to Omya AG in August 2000.
