Maintenance & Reliability Engineer

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Execute, and analyze maintenance operations. Develops analysis methods in determining maintenance demands for equipment processes. Conducts an analysis of reliability problems and investigates to determine the reliability required for the situation; considers costs, equipment downtime, replacement/repair costs, availability of materials/equipment. In addition, the person will be responsible for performing a variety of technical planning and scheduling tasks, manage maintenance capital projects and prepare reports for management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reliability & Predictive Maintenance
- Coordinate the evaluation of process equipment including packaging with focus on improved performance, improved reliability, better quality, higher capacity and lower operating and investment cost in conjunction with the process/ plant teams.
- Participate actively in cost estimates of new plants or expansions for grinding applications.
- Support and/or lead commissioning and start-up efforts for capital projects.
- Lead the evaluation of equipment as they are introduced – both for existing and new systems and/or products.
- Support on developing process cost estimates for capital projects managed by the direct and indirect reports.
- Research new equipment and technologies for application in our industry including packaging systems that are consistent with plant requirements and/or specific equipment needs.
- Support process and packaging layout designs for all plant processes.
- Support plants for equipment modifications, small projects, process and packaging troubleshooting and improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date files on processes and specs of product for plant. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Works with area managers, production manager, maintenance manager to perform reliability studies and calculations of equipment and systems.
- Provides in-house consulting of project work to advise and council technicians and engineers on processes/procedures and design, which are supported by calculations and data to ensure cost effective decisions and reliability engineering is applied.
- Performs root cause failure analysis to help prevent failures. Leads design and facilitates with all departments FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis).
- Designs and develops new engineering repair methods and procedures, special equipment, innovative test procedures, special analysis of failure techniques; communicates these concepts via technical reports/documents to applicable personnel.
- Collaborates with company engineers and manages contractors and consultants on various project work to ensure project objectives are sustained.
- Must ensure safe work practices and safety processes are included in project design and installation.
- Solicit and gather input from technicians during the design phase of a project to ensure their needs are woven into the development of new designs and processes.
- Maintain documentation and organize files to ensure file history and ease of usage.
Technical Planning
- Maximize the utilization of maintenance resources, modify the plan and monitor maintenance activity, reporting actual progress as compared to the plan.
- Participate in the preparation of the maintenance budget, providing cost estimates for the projects. Track and record costs through work orders and invoices.
- Participate in regular meetings with Operations and Maintenance crews to review daily / weekly work schedules and backlogs.
- Ensure trainings for the maintenance staff.
- Determine work procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
- Facilitate continuous improvement related to all project functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, as well as a minimum of five years’ experience in Engineering field.
- Previous exposure to the field of reliability engineering, root cause analysis, FMEA.
- Experience in project engineering and process design.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance within major industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of best practice in reliability.
- Team management experience.
- Experience in a Unionized environment is an asset.
Knowledge and skills
- Experience in industrial sites: maintenance of equipment and machinery in mineral processing.
- Prior usage of SAP/CMMS is an asset.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Good communication skills.
Other requirements
- Excellent command of both oral and written local language and English are required.
- Good command of both oral and written additional language is beneficial.
