Omya Smartfill is a calcium carbonate with an innovative modification that outperforms conventional calcium carbonate in most engineering polymers and in biopolymers that hydrolyse easily during extrusion, such as PLA and PHA.

Improves the performance of Polylactic Acid (PLA) and Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)

Omya Smartfill does not hydrolyse PLA and PHA like other calcium carbonates and improves both PLA stiffness and elongation, making PLA more ductile without additional impact modifiers.

Improves the ductility of Polyamide (PA) at lower cost 

Omya Smartfill improves the elongation and impact strength of PA 6 and thus offers cost advantages in the formulation of glass fiber and impact-modified compounds, as lower amounts of glass fibers and impact modifiers can be used.

Improves mechanical properties of white Polycarbonate (PC) at lower cost  

Pigments and minerals lower the mechanical performance of non-transparent polycarbonate.


For instance, when using Omya Smartfill, less titanium dioxide is required in white PC formulations, so that the impact strength of PC is significantly improved.
