Engineered wood products

Replacing fibers and reducing cost in MDF and HDF manufacturing.

Improve manufacturing processes for wood-based panels and fiberboard production

Wood is increasingly being used as a biomass source for green energy. The use of calcium carbonate as a replacement for wood fibers helps reduce the dependency on wood as a raw material. Calcium carbonate also reduces raw material costs which helps customers maintain a competitive advantage during uncertain market conditions.

Fiberboard fiber replacement

Reduce raw material and processing costs by replacing up to 15% of wood fiber with Omyawood ground calcium carbonate in medium or high-density fiberboard (MDF or HDF) and particle board. This has no impact on surface finishing or on the structural integrity of the fiberboard.

Helping balance the use of natural resources

Calcium carbonate is natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable, with a considerably lower carbon footprint than other industrial minerals.

It enables producers to balance raw material sourcing, reduce dependencies on wood as the main component of the end-product, and maintain competitive advantage in a challenging industrial environment.

Omya’s contribution to engineered wood products help preserve trees through wood substitution.
